A pop-up version of the proposed North Minneapolis Greenway is coming to the Northside. The pop-up will close two blocks of Irving Avenue N. completely to motorized traffic, except for emergency or service vehicles. Those blocks will feature 10-foot wide bike lanes and play areas. Another three blocks of Irving will have temporary bump outs installed to force traffic to weave around them at a slower speed.
The purpose of the pilot installation is to evaluate two possible configurations of a longer version of a permanent greenway that advocates want to route through much of the North Side. The temporary version could last up to a year.
